Cub Cadet Rechargable Lawn Mower Model 188

by William Soulen
(Columbus, OH)

I purchased this lawn mower a year ago because I was impressed by the quality of the construction and confidence in the Cub Cadet name. Initially I was able to mow my entire lawn on one charge. A year later I am able to mow only 1/4 of my lawn on a charge.

I checked with the dealer in town and was told that a new battery would cost approximately $165.00 plus installation costs. This means that after one year on a $400.00 purchase I I would have to pay almost 1/2 of the original purchase price to restore the mower to proper operating condition.

I wrote to Cub Cadet asking several questions two months ago and have never received a reply to my letter. Previously I had a Black and Decker rechargable mower and the battery lasted seven years before it had to be replaced at a cost of approximately $100.00.

Based upon my experience and the lack of a response from Cub Cadet I would strongly urge everyone to not buy this mower.

Pros
- initially great

Cons
- expensive repair
