Egg Shells, Coffee Grounds and Potato Water In The Garden

Sprinkle egg shells or coffee grounds on the soil of your garden or houseplants. You can also pour the water that you used to boil eggs or potatoes, after it cools of course, in the soil around plants to add minerals.

Plants will love these additives and it's a great way to be "green" and help the environment. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

Is there any limit to how much or how often you can add these items to your flower beds?

I've been meaning to buy garden soil for my garden
but with our daily consumption of coffee, I don't have to buy garden soil anymore.

I totally agree.I have used those same things for my garden and they work amazingly.I have also found out that using Banana Peels helps out with not only growth but also with pest control(LIKE ANTS).

Why?
by: Anonymous

What is it about egg shells and coffee grounds that help plants, and can they be used on all plants or just some? I make a pot of coffee everyday, and to think that I have just been throwing the grounds away???

I agree
by: Anonymous

I completely agree with saving eggshells, banana peels, and other food wastes to put in your garden. My mom did this for years and it really helped the soil. It's an easy way to get rid of leftover food scraps instead of just throwing them away or putting them down the garbage disposal.

Great Advice

These are great ways of using waste products to benefit the garden . I have also found adding soot to the garden compost in small quantities helps improve the soil .

I don't know what it is about egg shells and coffee grounds, but the worms in my vermicompost bin love those two things the best! Good tip to put them directly in the soil!
