LTX 1040

We bought the tractor April 4, 2009. It has 3.5 hours total usage. The third time my husband mowed with it, he ran over a crepe myrtle stump which was approximately 1.5" high. This was to much for the LTX 1040. My husband picked up a pulley and other parts from the yard. Since we had had the mower for approx 45 days, it was not covered under warranty. Parts are only warranted for 30 days. We now have the option to spend several hundred dollars for parts, and he can do the labor to repair it. However, we are afraid that the chain type belt on this year's 42" cut model will only cause this to happen again - he could run over a gravel or something. We have been offered $500 trade-in from one dealer and $600.00 from another dealer.

We are now back to using the old Craftsman we have had for approximately 16 years or more. It mowed over this tiny stump numerous times. There is no comparison between the old Craftsman and the Cub Cadet 42" LTX 1040. Also, I notice that parts are available for sale on the Cub Cadet web site, but one cannot send email from there.

Turtle Cadet

This 2011 CC LTX1040 has been a pain-in-the-a since I bought it. Two springs have broken,it smokes every start session of use, brake already gone after only 150 hrs., and is slower than a turtle. I would never recommend it or buy another in my life. I am disappointed that MTD & CC are just a POS.

1040 LTX poor
by: Anonymous

After two years of constant repairs on this machine, i'm out. The latest is a bad rear axle. $1499 for the machine, over $400 for deck and spindle parts, not to mention, belts, battery, and leaking oil repairs. to many problems to list. The worst product i ever purchased. cubcadet and home depot should be ashamed of themselves. And get this; i have less that 20 hours on the machine. What a joke. beware don't purchase.

Poor quality, workmanship, design, reliability and warranty. stay away.

Loving it!
by: Cliff

I bought my LTX 1040 back in February after doing a lot of research online, and talking with dealers, and friends with all kinds of different riding mowers. So far I'm loving it! Hasn't given me any problems, and mows perfect. One thing I did, that I would suggest if you are considering buying a Cub Cadet, and that is buy it from local dealer and not from one of the big box stores like Home Depot. It didn't cost me a penny more, and they delivered it free of charge. They also filed my warranty, and are equipt to work on and/or service my mower if needed. As of now, I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

worst ever
by: Anonymous

getting ready to purchase my third spindle assembley for this peice of crap. less than 20 hours on machine and by far the worst tractor and possibly worst product i have ever owned. cub cadet doesnt used the cogged belt assembly after one year but that doesnt help the customers who shelled out 1500 for a throw away machine.
