Spray Your Potted Plants During Hot Weather

by jessleedes
(Virginia)

I do not have a green thumb. In fact, it is probably pretty brown, as in the color of my previously dead plants.

Living in southern Virginia we have very hot days for most of the summer. Along with consistant watering and shade, I have found that spraying my potted plants with a good amount of water in the middle of the afternoon has saved many of them.

The water keeps the leaves and flowers from burning up, and they usually look perked up by evening.

Burning Plants
by: Anonymous

I have found that I water my plants during the day and early afternoon, the sun and heat will scorch them using the water on their leaves. It heats up the water till it evaporates, but it also burns the leaves as it heats up.

Black Thumb
by: Milbrant

My thumb is not just brown, it's absolutely black! My daughter sent me plants for Mother's day, and I've already killed them all :(

I can hear my plants scream and turn their leaves to the wall when I walk into the room. This tip, including adding the miracle grow, may help my next effort. Thanks for the information.

Afternoon Watering
by: Anonymous

I was always under the impression that watering them in the middle of the afternoon was bad for them. I also water my plants in the early morning and later on in the evening. I never thought about watering them in the afternoon to keep them from burning. So I will try that. Thanks for the tip!!

Good Hydration is the Key To Lovely Potted Plants
by: MsMarySays

I completely agree with this posting, but I do tend to spray them in the morning and alittle before I go to bed. I keep my potted plants on my patio outside so that in the day time they get plenty of sun and before I spray them in the morning I add a couple of drops of magic grow to the water. In this hot hot summer in New Jersey the combination of the magic grow and spraying 2 twice a day keeps my potted plants growing and looking so green and pretty.
