Toro 21 Inch Recycler Lawn Mower Model #20217
(Cincinnati, Ohio USA)
I am writing my review of the lawn mower I have personally used since I bought it in 1991. It is a Toro Recycler Lawn Mower. I bought it because it is a mulching mower--there is no bag to catch the grass clippings. There is an optional bag one can buy for it. I have never used a bag on it.
I have enjoyed the use of this mower over the years. It has been a workhouse of a mower. I have about a half acre lot and this lawn mower has never been out of service since its purchase. I have had it serviced about 12 of the 17 years I have owned it. The service replaces the spark plug, oil and air filter. One time they had to replace the deck on it while it was under warranty because the red paint on the deck started to peel off.
I have not had any problem starting it. It has a pull cord. It is self-propelled. I have not had any problem with any of the self propulsion parts. The lawn mower is reasonably easy to manuver. It has a 21 inch cut. There are five settings on the wheels one can adjust by hand and each setting cuts the grass evenly.
It is easy to unscrew half way down the handle for storage but it is too heavy to pick up by onseself to place in a trunk of a car. There is a turn off handle on the mower. It has always worked.
The engine on the mower is powerful and does not sputter like other mowers I have owned in the past. it is a gas operated engine and I usually can cut the entire lawn on one tank of gas. One problem I do not like is the fumes fly in my face off the engine, and I wish the engine had some sort of displacer on the engines to channel the fumes.
Another compliant is the grass must be cleaned so the lawn mower must be tilted on its side to clean the undercarriage. I do this about 10 times per year.
All in all this has been an extremely durable mower. I paid a pretty good price for it back whe I bought it, but its length in service without significant problems will have be purchase a Toro again.
