Wear Gloves When Gardening

Women, always wear gardening gloves when gardening, especially if you have artificial nails. This will protect your nails from breakage and most of all, protect them from all that gritty dirt that is inevitable under the nail. Much more sanitary too!

Gloves/Shoes for Desert Gardening
by: pattijodaugherty

Yes, definitely wear gloves. We live in the desert, where it is frequently 110+ degrees. My instinct is always to run outside in my shorts and flip-flops, and barehanded grab a weed here and there. At this point I usually end up spending an hour picking cactus needles out of my hands and arms, and stickers out of my feet. Even the most innocent looking weeds in the desert can be covered with tiny, fine needles--and these can be the hardest to remove!

Good One
by: Captain Cool

This is very useful tip. Earlier my mother while doing gardening never wore any gloves because of which some bacteria had entered through her nails. Hence the doctor had advised her to wear gloves. Now that she wears gloves every time, this has prevented in further occurrence of the problem. Hence my mother follows this tip. Wearing gloves helps to stay away from harmful bacteria and insects which might enter your body through nails.

Gardening with gloves is smart
by: Katherine

I think wearing gloves is the smarted thing to do while gardening. With the gloves on you can handle the garden shovel a lot better while digging the hole to put the potted plant in, able to clear out the dirt away from the hole, and gently grip the potted plant and take it out of the plastic pot and then plant it into the ground. Also, if you have to pull up pesky roots beneath the soil in order to get a good deep hole for the plant, gloves help with gripping and pulling those roots.

This is so true...

I find it really difficult to get all the dirt out from under my nails, but more importantly the soil seems to dry out my skin so gloves are alway better.
