Weedeater 22" (Model # 961140004 06)

by Raymond Woodward
(Hillsborough NC)

When our original, cheap lawnmower, a "Yard Man," died without hope of recovery, we purchased another inexpensive lawnmower, also from Wal-Mart. It's a Weedeater brand with a 22-inch cut. The model number shown on the lawnmower is 961140004 06.

This is the second year that we've owned this Weedeater, which we bought partly because of the price and partly because of the brand name, and we are more than satisfied wit it, at least so far.

Other than changing the oil and cleaning the lawn residue from the air filter, it's needed no maintenance at all.

Well, now I do remember that we needed to clean the spark plug, which had gotten oil fouled for some reason. (It may have been that I filled it once with gas that was mixed with oil for my 2 cycle chain saw.)

This lawnmower has a solid, metal deck that doesn't seem to be any less substantial than the decks on other mowers which cost in the hundreds of dollars. (Ours cost less than $100--about $80 as I recall.)

It has a genuine Briggs and Stratton engine (the B&S 500) that has 158cc's, and it almost never bogs down except in meadow-high grass.

These engines have a primer bulb of some sort of rubberized plastic, which injects fuel directly into the engine, so it starts up on the third pull worst case.

The mower didn't come with a grass clipping bag, and I'm not sure if such a bag is made for it, but we never use one anyway, preferring to let the lawn recycle its own waste.

Since I really don't understand the sense in spending a lot of money for a lawnmower in the first place, I'd certainly recommend this mower to anybody who needs one--and we cut almost an acre of grass with it at least once a week!

Fouled Plug
by: Woody

I had the same situation with mine after about a year. Wouldn't start. Turned out the plug was seriously oil fouled. Cleaned the plug and now we're good to go again.

Worked great for over a year. Now, won't stay running. New gas, new air filter, new spark plug, oil changed.
Anyone have this problem?
On the bright side, it does seem to be a solid little mower. Does tend to foul spark plugs about every third mowing, but a wire brush cleans the plug and away it goes again.
I need a little trouble shooting help on this one- will crank, start, mow, then die after about 5 minutes never to start again.
Thanks in advance
Robert
