Mowers
Being one of the top brands makes it easy to find the Craftsman within you
“Honey, can you mow the lawn?” That’s just one of those phrases that men hate to hear the world over. Yes, it is kind of the province of the man of the house, but no one likes to do it overly much. So, unless you can afford to pay for a lawn service, you’re going to be cutting the grass.
Depending on the size of your lawn, you will have either a push-mower or a riding mower; there are even still a few folks out there using the old reel mowers. No matter what kind of yard you have, one of the best brands for all your mowing needs is Craftsman.
Time Tested Tools
Craftsman tools are some of the best, time-tested tools around.
What many don’t realize is that in addition to hand and power tools, they also make lawn mowers, among many other things. Craftsman has been around for over eighty years, as they began beings sold in Sears stores in 1927.
Even in those early days, they were recognized as top-of-the-line hand tools. Over the years, the Craftsman line has grown to encompass many other types of equipment, but throughout it all they’ve managed to maintain their tradition of quality and functionality.
Variety to Choose from
So, you have to mow the lawn. What kind of lawn do you have? For most, the answer is we have a moderately-sized yard, too big for a reel mower, but way too small for a riding mower. Therefore, we need a push mower. Push mowers are the most common type of mower out there and Craftsman push mowers are some of the best.
Budget Craftsman Lawn Mower
The least expensive Craftsman push mower is Model # 38517.
This little guy usually runs for under $120 and features a 4.75 ft-lbs gross torque Briggs & Stratton motor, side-discharge system, , height adjusters, and a folding handle for storage. Next in line is Model #38512.
This model usually runs for under $150 and features a 5.5 ft-lbs gross torque Briggs & Stratton motor, the ability to be easily switched from side-discharge to mulching, optional grass catcher, height adjusters, and a folding handle for storage. Next you have Model #38842. These mowers usually run for under $200, yet are still quite exceptional.
They feature a 6.75 ft-lbs gross torque Briggs & Stratton motor, the Ready Start feature (requiring no prime or choke), the Dust Blocker rear bag, and a two-year warranty. Next is Model #38819, a compact model. This model features a 5.5 ft-lbs gross torque Briggs & Stratton motor, the Dust Blocker rear bag, a Mulching System, height adjusters, and a folding handle.
This model sacrifices power for a reduction in size, which makes it great for homeowners who lack a shed or another suitable place to stow their mower.
Push Mowers Huge selection
Next you have Model # 38845. These mowers feature a 6.75 ft-lbs gross torque Briggs & Stratton motor featuring MRS (Most Reliable Start), the Ready Start feature (requiring no prime or choke), the Dust Blocker rear bag, the Precision Plus Cutting System for high performance bagging and mulching, 12” Rear High Wheels for maneuvering through thick or high grass, and a two-year warranty.
Next up is Model #37177. This model is essentially the Californian alternative to Model # 38842 and passes that sate’s stringent emissions standards.
It features a 6.75 ft-lbs gross torque Briggs & Stratton motor, the Ready Start feature (requiring no prime or choke), the Dust Blocker rear bag, 12” Rear High Wheels for maneuvering through thick or high grass, and a two-year warranty.
These are just the beginning of the push mowers available from Craftsman. If you want more bells and whistles, Craftsman has models that can run as high as $1300 if you are really serious about cutting your lawn or are a commercial contractor or the like.
Tractor Mowers
Most Affordable
If your lawn is too large for you to consider a push mower, your next option is the riding mower, or tractor mower. These mowers are more expensive of course, but they are essential if you have a few acres of land, especially if it is hilly land. The most affordable Craftsman tractor mower is Model #28601, a model available only in California and built to meet that state’s strict emissions requirements.
This model can usually be found for under $900 and is powered by a 15.5 hp Briggs & Stratton IC engine with an oil filter and overhead valves for cooler running and longer life, a six speed transaxle, and a two-year limited warranty.
Upgrade
There also other “California” models” that allow you to upgrade from this mower a bit. Next up is Model #28803. This mower features a 17.5 hp Briggs & Stratton Intek engine with overhead valves for cooler running and longer life, a six speed transaxle, a handy cup holder, and a two-year limited warranty.
Next you have Model #28607. This mower features a 20 hp Briggs & Stratton IC engine with overhead valves for cooler running and longer life, a six speed transaxle, a handy cup holder, and a two-year limited warranty. Next is Model #28811, which is powered by a 20 hp Briggs & Stratton Intek engine with a geared manual transmission, a 42-inch Precision Cut cutting deck, and a Die Hard battery.
Then you have Model #536.270320. This attractive mower comes with a 13.5 Briggs & Stratton IC engine, dual independent steering, a cup holder, a deluxe comfort grip steering wheel, tool-free deck leveling, a compact design with a 12-inch turning radius, and Turf Saver tires.
High End
Once again, these tractor mowers are just the beginning. There are many other Craftsman riding mowers available to fit your needs, some priced as high as $3000 if you want all the extra bells and whistles
Old-fashioned reel mower
If you are an inner city dweller with just a small patch of grass and virtually no storage space, then an old-fashioned reel mower may be just what you need. Craftsman still manufactures these reliable old tools and sells them for just under $90. You can even purchase a grass catcher for them.
A Solid Choice
If you are in the market for a lawnmower, you simply cannot go wrong with a Craftsman. These mowers have stood the test of time, have a reputation of quality and have a decades-old company firmly behind them.
