Eco-Friendly Weed Killer

One of the best way to kill weeds, without hurting the environment, or the critters in your garden or yard, is to use boiling (or hot) water.

Just heat the water up on the stove, and depending on how many weeds you're looking to kill dump the water, or pour it into a spray bottle and soak the weeds.

However! MAKE SURE you're careful with this method, as it will also kill all of the plants you WANT to keep.

use a funnel
by: Anonymous

if you place the narrow side of the funnel on the center of the weed, pour the hot water in the funnel that would certainly isolate it. wouldn't it? I will try this this weekend. :)

TRIED AND TESTED
by: Steve

I can confirm this technique. I picked it up from my Grandfather who lived in an industrial town in England with a large cobbled yard to the rear of the house. He would pour the remnants of his kettle and cooking water on the yard to ensure weeds didn't grow.I still use this method on my drive and paths to this day.

Interesting

This is a very interesting ideal. I will be trying it next year on all the weeds in the yard. I hate using all the chemicals that one normally would use.

This works very well
by: Anonymous

I've been using this method this year to kill off the rampant dandelion growth that occurred in my mulch beds as a result of the record rainfalls in this area. I've made sure to isolate the boiling water to exactly the areas I wish to defoliate, and this has worked very well without harming the surrounding grass and garden.

The great thing is that it isn't screwing up the soil balance like many other methods will, which means next year the soil will be fine for me to plant some nice bulbs or herb gardens.

Good tip, but since the plants and weeds are normally all right up next to each other, it would be difficult to do without hurting or ruining the actual plants you are trying to keep.

Is it eco-friendly?
by: Anonymous

By spraying hot water you kill the weeds, and as if as a bonus, you clear the garden of all the other plants you planted. Are you not, in fact, friendly to desrtification or non-vegetation? May be, you want to balance too much greenery around with brown, barren land!
