You can count on a Toro
for your garden day by day

Ugh, it’s time to mow the lawn again. You’ve put it off for as long as you could, but you have to do it. But what about that junky old mower you’ve been using?

That thing is a pain to start and stalls out every time you go over a really thick cluster of grass. Maybe it’s time for a new one. If you’re looking for a new lawnmower, the first mowers you should look at are Toro lawnmowers. Toro has a variety of mowers designed to fit the needs of just about anyone.

Toro History

Toro has been around as a company for almost 100 years, going back all the way to 1914. The company has its roots in landscape contracting and golf course and sports field managers and continues to stay involved commercially to this day. IF professional sports teams and golfers can trust Toro, why can’t you, the homeowner?

Toro Lawn Mowers Overview

Toro has lawnmowers designed specifically with the homeowner in mind, beginning with Model #20064. This most affordable mower in the Recycler line is a Personal Pace self-propelling mower which runs for under $300 and features variable speed front wheel drive, Guaranteed-to-Start (GTS) engine, recycler cutting system with Atomic blade, a Briggs & Stratton engine, and a two-year warranty.

For an extra $20, you can upgrade to Model #20065, which features high rear wheels that allow you to more easily plow through high or especially thick grass.

Model #20066 runs for about $370 and features much of the same as the previous models, but its Briggs & Stratton engine also has Ready Start, meaning that there is no prime or choke.

For an extra $50 you can upgrade to Model #20067, which has a turn-key electric start—handy for those who hate pulling on those mower cords. You can upgrade even further to Model #20068, which features a Blade Override System, allowing you to step away from the mower momentarily without having to restart it when you return. These models all also have “California versions” of them available that meet that state’s stringent emissions standards.

Super Recycler Line

The next step up in Toro push mowers is the Super Recycler line. The most affordable of this line is Model # 20090, which runs for about $450.

Recyler Line Key features

This high performance mower features a Guaranteed-to-Start (GTS) engine, Super Recycler cutting system, a Briggs & Stratton engine with Ready Start, a premium cast aluminum cutting deck that won’t rust, a “Quick Change” storage handle, a “Quick Wash” washout port and a five-year warranty.

Another $80 gets you Model #20091, which tacks on the Personal Pace self-propelling rear-wheel drive system. For an additional $20, you can upgrade to Model #20092, which has the 3-in-1 mulch, side-discharge, and rear bagging system. Another $110 allows you to advance to Model #20093, which features the Blade Override System. Another $20 after that gets you Model #20094, featuring Key-Lectric Start.

Toro Riding Mowers

LX series

If a tractor or riding mower is what you need, Toro has plenty of those to choose from as well. First is Model LX 426, which runs for about $1500. This model features a 20 hp Briggs & Stratton Intek engine, automatic CVT transmission with Cruise Control, a three-gallon fuel tank, and a two-year warranty.

Next is LX 425, which has a 20 hp Kohler Courage Twin Cam OHV engine and much of the same features as the previous model. An upgrade to LX 465 will get you an automatic hydrostatic transmission with Cruise Control, a standard front bumper, and a top speed of 6.4 mph.

The LX 465 runs for about $1800. LX 466 costs the same but features a 22 hp Briggs & Stratton Intek twin-cylinder engine, lacks the bumper, and tops out at 5.5 mph. LX 468 runs for about $2049 and features a 22 hp Kohler Courage twin-cylinder engine, an automatic hydrostatic transmission with Cruise Control, a standard front bumper, and a top speed of 5.5 mph.

Finally, the LX 500 features a 22 hp Kohler Courage twin-cylinder engine, automatic CVT transmission with Cruise Control, electric PTO clutch, a 50” 3-in-1 mowing deck with anti-scalp wheels, a high-back seat, a top speed of 5.5 mph, and runs for about $1900. As you can see, there are a wide variety of tractors in the LX Series, appealing to all sorts of lawns.

GT2000 Lawn Tractor Series

There is also the GT2000 Lawn Tractor Series, beginning with the GT2100. This tractor runs for about $2499 and features a 23 hp Kohler Courage twin-cylinder engine, a heavy duty automatic transmission with Cruise Control, electric PTO clutch, a 50” 3-in-1 mowing deck with anti-scalp wheels, a high-back seat, a top speed of 5 mph, and a two-year warranty.

The GT2200 runs at $2899 and features a 25 hp Kohler Courage twin-cylinder engine, a foot-controlled hydrostatic transmission with Cruise Control, electric PTO clutch, a 50” 3-in-1 mowing deck with anti-scalp wheels, a high-back seat, a top speed of 6.4 mph, and a two-year limited warranty.

Classic Garden Tractor

Finally you have the top-of-the-line Classic Garden Tractor Series, which consists of one tractor, the customizable GT/315-8. This tractor runs for about $4339 and features a Kohler Command OHV engine, a Uni-Drive transaxle with case-hardened gears and cast-iron housing, Dial-A-Height for attachment height adjustments, and Keychoice Reverse, which lets you mow backwards as the situation requires and permits. These top models are just about the best you will find anywhere.

Though all this information may at first seem confusing, Toro by far has the easiest system to understand when you are considering the baseline mower models and those above them. Generally, the most affordable mowers have lower designations, and the more features you pile on them, the designations increase in number and so does the price.

This allows you to virtually customize the mower in your head before making your purchase. Though the situation gets a bit more tangled when you look at tractor mowers, the concept is essentially the same and remains mostly intact.

Final Thought

If you are considering getting a new lawnmower, you simply cannot go wrong with Toro. Many commercial outfits put their trust in this established industry veteran, and so can you.
